Denmark urges social restraint after record Covid surge

Copenhagen, December 30, : .Denmark’s health authorities have warned citizens that there are 23228 Covid-19 new cases in Denmark in 24 hours.
According to Wednesday’s statistics by the Statens Serum Institut, (SSI), there were 1,205 cases of reinfections.This is about 1 in 20.

The Director of Denmark’s Health Authority (SST), Soren Brostrom, strongly urged Danes not to celebrate New Year’s Eve with only one day left, according to Xinhua news agency.

Brostrom stated that he would like to see as many people as possible and kept it quiet during a press conference.

Although the official didn’t offer any more details, he noted that almost all of society has been living with Covid-19 for nearly two years now and is familiar with how it works.

In addition to 16 deaths, the SSI registered 16 more deaths within the last 24 hours.

This brings the total national deaths to 3,247 and 762 299 respectively since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Tyra Grove Krause (SSI academic director) stated that the Omicron variant has been identified in over 80 percent of positive samples.

Krause stated that “Overall we can state that we have an Omicron-driven and growing epidemic” at the press conference.He predicted that the epidemic would reach its peak January 2022.

The SSI also reports that 76.6 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated and 45.7 percent have had a booster shot.
