New Delhi, December 27, : .As Turkey and Qatar seek control over operations at Kabul’s airport, Afghan businessmen urge the government to instead sign a contract for a company in the United Arab Emirates.
Many Afghans own investments in the UAE, and fear that their access to the country will be limited, Tolo News reports.The report stated that over 200k Afghans have settled in Dubai and had millions of dollars invested there.
Qatari officials and Turkish officials visited Kabul last Thursday to discuss management of Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul.
This contract is vital for Afghans living in the UAE.The UAE should receive this contract.The traders would face severe problems if the flights from Kabul to the UAE are stopped,” Obaidullah Sdar Khail (head of the Afghanistan traders council) said.
According to traders, around 10 flights per day were operated between Afghanistan (now the UAE) before the collapse of the previous government.
Farid Ruhani (a trader) stated that the Islamic Emirate should give management of UAE’s airports to them as it will aid in developing the country.
However, some ex-members of the Afghanistan Aviation Authority had a contrary opinion.
Imam Mohammad Wrimach (the former deputy minister for transport) stated that Afghanistan should adhere to international standards and take other steps in order to provide quality air services and generate revenue.
The Ministry of Transportation stated earlier that no agreement had been reached with anyone to manage the Kabul airport.

According to the report, Imamuddin Ahmadi (a spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation), the meetings would continue until we come to a satisfactory agreement.
