Tutu was a well-known anti-apartheid activist who died in Cape Town at 90 on Sunday.
Cricket South Africa (CSA), has received the sad news of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s passing this morning.

CSA sent a statement to state its condolences to all of the Tutu’s family members, friends, coworkers, Anglican Church and the rest of South Africa.

On day 1 of SuperSport Park’s first Test against India, the South African side wore black armbands as a sign of respect.

Archibishop Tutu leaves these shores after making a significant contribution to the fight against apartheid’s unjust and criminal systems.His entire life was dedicated to reconciliation and healing for the nation.

This process he continued even after he retired as chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (in the 1990s).

South Africa and India, along with all those in the stadium observed silence for a minute before the national anthems.

His heroic efforts were a huge benefit to Cricket, which ushered into a new era in unity and embodied God’s rainbow people.On the day South Africa and India begin a Test series in South Africa, he passes away.

This also marks South Africa’s 30th anniversary of its readmission to international cricket following our time of isolation.

Black armbands were seen on the umpires of South Africa, Adrian Holdstock and Marais Erasmus.

The Archibishop’s death is a devastating loss for CSA.His activism and teachings were instrumental in transforming cricket.CSA was delighted to lose the Archibishop, a cricket enthusiast and another of our great Sons and Daughters.

Tutu is well-known for his anti-apartheid activism and human rights work.

In 1984, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for nonviolence against apartheid.After South Africa’s 1994 first democratically elected President, Nelson Mandela was elected, Tutu also invented the term “Rainbow Nation” to describe South Africa after apartheid.

According to Mr.Pholetsi Moseki, CSA’s Acting Chief executive officer, “There is only a few people who have contributed more to democracy and reconciliation projects and even the hard times of unification and cricket in South Africa,” said Archibishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.

India is currently at 272/3 after 90 overs.KL Rahul was the unbeaten batsman for India, scoring 122 runs.Ajinkya Rahane was on 40.Mayank Agarwal was able to score a quick 60 runs, while Virat Kohli contributed 35 runs.Lungi Nigidi, the host’s only wicket taker, took 3/45 runs in just 17 overs.
