Cairo, 26 December : .President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt and Vladimir Putin of Russia have reached an agreement to intensify their joint efforts in resolving the Libyan crisis.The two presidents discussed the situation in Libya over a telephone conversation.Sisi mentioned Egypt’s efforts to get closer the viewpoints of Libyan parties so that Libya can move beyond the transitional period and allow the people of Libya the freedom of choice in selecting their representatives and leaders, Xinhua reported.
Officially, Sisi said that Putin and Putin stressed the need to intensify their joint efforts, mutual coordination, and combat terrorist organizations and weaken armed militias in order to resolve the Libyan crisis.
After the High National Elections Commission of Libya (HNEC), in coordination with House of Representatives, suggested last week that the first round of presidential elections be postponed to January 24, 2022 provided the House of Representatives makes the required measures to end the obstruction to the electoral process.
Over 2.5 million Libyans have already received their HNEC voter cards and they are planning to vote to elect a president.
The original plan was for the Libyan parliamentary election to take place on January 20, 222.
These elections form part of the UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum’s February roadmap, which aims to restore stability in Libya.
