Kabul, December 25, : , Several power supply projects for Afghanistan were halted in recent months because of the suspension of funds by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank, and US development aid following the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban.Officials from the national power corporation said that the decision to suspend the ADB, World Bank, and US development assistance funds had been made.Officials from Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), stated that Turkmenistan’s 500KV electricity transmission from Afghanistan was one of the stalled projects.This project involved transferring electricity from Turkmenistan’s border to Sheberghan’s Aqina port, then to Alvazun Plain of Kunduz, and finally, to the Arghandi District of Kabul.
Only 10% of the work has been completed.
Ninety percent of the 500kV line project has been completed, and there is only ten per cent remaining.
The ADB will allow us to complete the remainder of the work within the next six month, TOLO News reported.Safiullah Ahmedzai is the executive chief at DABS.
Officials stated that to solve the Kabul electricity shortage, two additional sub-stations will need to be constructed at $40 million.
“Considering Afghanistan’s current state, we haven’t received a positive response so far.” Ahmadzai said that we had presented our entire plan and other options to restart these projects.
Kabulans claim that there is an increase in electricity shortages this winter.
Borhan, who lives in the capital, said that there isn’t electricity and when it does, it doesn’t benefit them.
It does not arrive when there is an urgent need for electricity at night to heat and light the rooms.
Another resident, Nooraqa said that people are experiencing a lot more problems.
Some institutions claim that work has been halted on almost a dozen more major projects including the CASA1000 and TAPI projects.
