New Delhi, December 13, 2013 : .A total of 150 athletes were identified to receive support through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme.
(TOPS).This was done at Monday’s meeting of the Mission Olympic Cell of Sports Ministry.MOC approves lists for cycling, shooting and swimming as well as weightlifting and para-sports like archery, wrestling, badminton shooting, swimming, and table tennis.
The next meeting will discuss archery, tennis, athletics and badminton.
The MOC meeting is the official start to the shorter Olympic cycle, despite the fact that planning for 2024 Olympic Games in Paris began much earlier.Seven athletes were elevated from the Khelo India Scheme, and they are now among the TOPS Development Group inductees.
The recently-reconstituted MOC, which includes seven former athletes as new members, offered suggestions for preparations for the Paris Olympic Games so that India can build on the gains of Tokyo 2020 where Indians won seven medals.
The lists of athletes for the TOPS Core and Development Groups were collectively drawn up by the TOPS team and the respective National Sports Federations.
