New Delhi, December 13, 2013 : .The AAP refused to board the four Punjab Congress ministers who had been planning to join them in 2022 Assembly elections.
This was due to their involvement in illegal sand mining in Punjab. “For a long time, four senior ministers from Punjab Congress approached Aam Aadmi Party. But we refused to accept them because serious allegations of sandstealing have been made against the party.,” Raghav Chadha (AAP MLA) said during a briefing on Monday morning.
He said that Aam Aadmi Party was an honest party, and does not require sand mafias. The illegal sand mining in Punjab is a significant political issue, and the Kejriwal-led party there has constantly attacked the Congress government.
The Punjab government introduced Mission Clean to combat the problems of liquor theft and sand theft.
Chadha tweeted on December 4th, alleging illegal sandmining was taking place in Chamkaur Sahib — the constituency of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Sing Channi.
“Illegal sand mining in Charanjit Singh Channi’s constituency has been exposed. It is the biggest expose which will shake Punjab’s politics,” his tweet along with a live video of sand being mined illegally read.
On Friday, he also announced that the AAP will reward Rs 25,000 to the Punjab Chief Minister if he acts against every site where illegal sand mining is being done, alleging that Channi has complete information about the whereabouts of illegal mining in his state.
Punjab, along with the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Goa is slated to go to polls for 117 seats in early 2022.
In the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, Congress had bagged a clear majority by winning 77 seats, while the AAP had got 20, BJP 3, SAD 15 and Lok Insaaf party 2 seats.
