Canberra, December 13, 2013 : .The summit talks between South Korean President Moon Jaein and Australia’s Prime Minster Scott Morrison took place Monday.
They were expected to concentrate on strengthening bilateral relations and creating a steady supply chain for raw materials.According to Yonhap News Agency, Moon arrived in Canberra Sunday as the first South Korean president to make a state trip to Australia for 12 years.
Officials said that he is the first foreign leader the country invited since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to a senior official in the White House, Moon’s trip to Australia will help South Korea to secure important mining products like rare earth and lithium amid the disruption caused by global supply chain pandemics.
The agenda will also include strengthening cooperation in areas such as carbon-neutral tech, hydrogen economy, defense industry, cyberspace, and space.
After the summit, Moon will attend a state luncheon hosted by Australian Governor-General David Hurley.
Also on Monday, Moon will visit a monument for Australian veterans of the 1950-53 Korean War and pay his respects at the Australian National Korean War Memorial.
Australia fought alongside South Korea during the war to help defend the South from North Korea’s invasion.
