Bengaluru : , Nov 19, 2009 – Five people were arrested by the Karnataka Police in connection to a racket that involved fake stamp papers in the state.Police also recovered equipment worth Rs 64 lakh and other items from the possession of the suspects.
These arrested people were identified as Hussain Babu (Harish), Nayaz Ahmad and Seema, along with Shabbir Ahmad.
Kamal Pant, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner had set up a team of special officers to stop the counterfeit stamp paper racket.They were following instructions from the court.
The special team gathered inputs and arrested five people.They took rubber stamps and seals and 663 counterfeit stamp papers, 136 fake stamp papers, and 13 packed stamp papers into custody.
Since 2005, the accused had been involved in manufacturing counterfeit stamp papers.
The fake stamp papers were sold for between Rs 3,000 and Rs 10,000.
Hussain Babu (also known as Chota Telgi) was also arrested in 2013 for similar offenses.
Harish and Seema were also accused.They worked at the Revenue Bhavan and on the court premises.
Fake stamp papers were used for false filings and claims.
