Telugu Desam Party Politburo member Varla Ramaiah has lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking action against police who arrested TDP leaders and activists for protesting against the hike in petrol and diesel prices.Varla Ramaiah wrote a letter to NHRC alleging that the Andhra Pradesh police were harassing the protesting TDP leaders.
In the letter, he mentioned, “The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has called for statewide protests on August 28, 2021, against the skyrocketing petrol and diesel prices in Andhra Pradesh.The Telugu Desam Party has been carrying out peaceful protests abiding by the covid rules to pressurize the Andhra Pradesh state government to reduce petrol and diesel prices.”
Also, he alleged that some TDP leaders were placed under house arrest by police, and false cases have been registered against TDP protestors under various sections.
Varla Ramaiah said in the letter, “I urge the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to investigate and take appropriate action against the police, those responsible for registering cases.I want the NHRC to take immediate action to restore democracy and fundamental rights in the state of Andhra Pradesh and protect Article 19.”
