The Nobel Committee has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2020 to World Food Programme for fighting against world hunger.

World Food Programme (WFP) run by the United Nations organisation has impressed the Nobel Committee in battling against hunger across the world.

For its efforts, the Committee has announced the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2020.

“The @WFP has been awarded the 2020 #NobelPeacePrize for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.(sic)” stated the Nobel committee.

Reportedly, the Rome-based organisation helps nearly 97 million people across 88 countries each year.Even in the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Food Programme strived hard to suppress hunger and prevent the use of it as a weapon of war and conflict.According to its statement, one in nine people globally still don’t have enough to eat, and the Coronavirus has worsened the situation further.

The World Food Programme would get a prize worth of nearly $1.1 million that will be presented in Oslo on December 10.
