New Delhi, Aug 22 : As the government retracted the Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill 73% of Indians do not want personal information to be included in the scope of the new law according to a report released on Monday.While 45 percent of Indians believe that localisation of data is a matter of flexibility, 55 percent think that data transfer regulations are not flexible enough, as per the data privacy report from data security and cybersecurity provider Tsaaro.
“We should determine the scope of the draft, then make it sound and inclusive that is capable of global governance and learn from the existing laws that have been implemented while taking into account the negative and positive impacts of their laws” stated Akarsh Singh Co-founder CEO of Tsaaro.
In the last month, the government retracted the controversial PDP Bill 2019 that saw the amendment of 81 times and said that it would soon introduce a fresh more streamlined and sharpier bill that will fit within the broad legal framework to safeguard the personal data of billions of citizens.
The government announced that the draft of the new PDP Bill is almost ready that will ensure the privacy online of individuals.
The report stated that 82 percent of Indians believe that surveillance via video should be restricted because it collects and processes biometric data.
“The opinion of making the legislation future-ready is vital, since we are in the midst of the debate that surrounds the legislation,” added Singh.
The results showed that the bill needs to be comprehensive because our country’s diversity and challenges differ from those of any other developed country So a complete replica of their laws isn’t feasible.
The previous PDP Bill drew intense scrutiny from privacy advocates, tech industry players and industry companies.
The Bill was first introduced in 2019 and then passed over to the Joint Committee.
The JCP report had identified a number of issues that were pertinent but not within the limits of modern law on privacy in the digital age.
