We are confident that the government of the state will fulfill its pledges. However our agitation in the streets has lasted 500 days.

Our peaceful protests will continue until the point that each of those candidates who were not granted of jobs despite being able to qualify in the merit list receives an appointment letter. The number of these candidates is expected to be about 600” the head of the protesters’ group, S.Shahidullah, stated following the meeting.

In the course of the meeting, Bratya Basu stated that the state administration had assured the protesters that their demands will be “sympathetically considered”.

“However accommodating this many candidates would require the creation of new posts. This would require approval by the finance department in the state, and after that, the cabinet of the state.

The entire process will take the time of a while,” he said.

It is the second gathering on this subject.

The first step towards holding discussions with protesters was initiated by Trinamool Congress national general secretary and party MP Abhishek Banerjee on the 29th of July.

The state education minister also attended the meeting.

At that same meeting the delegates had made clear that talks could continue, but the agitation will end only after the issues of appointment for the candidates is agreed upon.
