The State Department released Wednesday’s statement stating that Rina Amiri, Special Envoy, and Stephenie Foster, Senior Advisor, “bring to the Department decades of experience in public policy, diplomacy, and advocacy”.

Foster was previously employed by the State Department.Amiri served in Afghanistan and Pakistan as an American special envoy during President Barack Obama’s previous administration.

In the release, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Rina Amiri was welcome back to the Department with the role of Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls and Human Rights.

Blinken stated that Amiri would “work on matters of critical importance for me, this administration and US national security: The human rights and fundamental liberties of women, girls and other at-risk population in all their diversity.”

We want a secure, peaceful and stable Afghanistan where Afghans are able to thrive and live in peace, equality, and economic growth. He said that Special Envoy Amiri would work closely with him to achieve this goal.

Foster was mentioned by the Secretary of the State as having “diversity in public and private sector experience, including at the Department”, and that her passion for women’s safety and equality will aid in advancing around-the clock relocation and resettlement efforts for our Afghan allies, their families and their families.”

Afghanistan currently faces severe humanitarian and economic challenges. These have worsened after the Taliban’s August 15th fall.

The UN says that Afghan girls and women are particularly affected by the poverty and hunger in their country.

Secondary schools for girls in Kabul, most of Afghanistan’s provinces, have been closed since the political transition.

The Taliban-led Ministry of Virtue and Vice published a new directive earlier this week that requires women to travel long distances on roads with a male relative and wear a hijab.

It also prohibited the use of music inside vehicles.

The Islamic Sharia prohibits shops from showing female models’ heads.

Human rights activists across the globe have condemned the Taliban’s rigid laws.Kabul saw a demonstration by women on Tuesday against travel bans imposed recently by Taliban.

They demanded and called for the international community’s help.

I want to say to the entire world: Tell the Taliban to cease killing.Nayera Koahistani, along with many other women, protested on the streets in Kabul.

Criticised by Biden’s administration for failing to prioritize safe passage for women and rights activists who were previously targeted by Taliban, the Biden administration was also criticised.

Biden insisted that he had made the right decision by leaving Afghanistan. However, Washington would continue to press for the Taliban to grant women’s rights and an inclusive government to Afghanistan as part of its demands.

If the Taliban want global recognition, Biden will not be able to deny these concerns.
