Kiev 11th of September : The widely-publicized Ukrainian southern offensive was part of a propaganda campaign to deflect Russia from the real battle that is being planned in the Kharkiv region Ukrainian special forces have stated, as reported by the media.Ukrainian forces continue to make astonishing, rapid advance in the north-east of the country, taking more than one-third of the in the Kharkiv region in three days, The Guardian reported.
A large portion of the territorial gains of Ukraine was confirmed by Russia’s defense ministry on the weekend.
“(It) was a huge particular disinformation campaign,” said Taras Berezovets an ex-national security adviser who was later a press officer of the Bohun brigade of Ukraine’s special forces, The Guardian reported.
“(Russia) believed they was in the south and then moved their equipment. Then instead of the south, the offensive occurred in the area they least anticipated and caused the Russians to panic and run away.”
On August 29, Ukraine’s southern commander revealed that the much-anticipated military offensive in the Kherson region was underway. However, soldiers who were on the Kherson frontline claimed that at the time, they could not find no evidence of the offensive, or that the fighting that were taking place were a response to an attempt at a Russian offensive that was launched a few days prior.
In the last two weeks Ukrainian troops in the south took over several villagesnot a small feat considering the strength reported of Russian positions, and one that nevertheless led to in injuries.
But the gains weren’t significantly different from the steady , but slow improvement Ukrainian forces had made in the Kherson region in the months of July and August.
Yet, the taking of the tiny Kherson villages with numbers of a few thousand, quickly became the talk of the world, The Guardian reported.
Natalia Humeniuk, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s southern command was insisting on the existence of a “regime of silence” and temporarily barred journalists from visiting the frontlines in Kherson.
But Berezovets claimed that the media uproar about the Southern offensive was a planned disinformation campaign carried out by Ukraine directed at Russian forces. The tension had been brewing for a number of months, The Guardian reported.
