Telangana Polls : BJP Pledges BC Chief Minister, Says Amit Shah in Significant Caste Outreach

In a promising development for Backward Class (BC) leaders within the BJP, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday, October 27, that if the BJP assumes power in Telangana, a leader from the BC community would be appointed as the chief minister.

Speaking at a large public gathering in Suryapet, the Union home minister raised questions about Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Raos earlier commitment to appoint a Dalit as the chief minister and allocate three acres of land to every Dalit family in the state.

Within the Telangana BJP, there are three prominent BC leaders — MLA Eatala Rajender (Mudhiraj), MPs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Dharmapuri Arvind (both Munnuru Kapus).Although Amit Shah refrained from specifying any of their names, he made it explicit that the BJPs intention was to appoint a BC leader as the chief minister if they were to come to power.

The BJP leader aimed to secure the support of the BC population, which constitutes a significant portion, likely over 50 percent, of the total population. While there has been speculation that Eatala might be put forward as the BC chief ministerial candidate for the BJP, Amit Shah neither confirmed nor hinted at this possibility.

Similarly, he did not suggest that either Bandi Sanjay or Arvind would be the party’s BC CM candidate."Today, I want to tell the people of Telangana: You bless BJP and bring a BJP government into power, and the next chief minister of Telangana will be from the Backward Classes. We have decided this," he assured.

‘BJP consistently prioritizes BC welfare’

The senior BJP leader emphasized that the saffron party has consistently prioritized the welfare and empowerment of BCs, contrasting this with KCRs alleged abandonment of his promise to allocate ₹10,000 crore annually for their welfare. He stated, "KCR is opposed to the poor, the Dalits, and the BCs, but the Centre has shown its concern by establishing a BC Commission.

" Taking a swipe at BRS and the Congress, Amit Shah asserted that both parties were primarily focused on furthering their own family interests."KCR wants to pave the way for his son KTR to become chief minister.

Sonia Gandhi aspires for her son Rahul Gandhi to become prime minister," he remarked, highlighting their purported lack of attention to the needs of the underprivileged."They cannot lead the nation forward.

It is only the BJP that can bring about substantial positive change for the people. The BRS and the Congress will not make any substantial contributions for the people," he contended.

He also highlighted the prime ministers announcement of a Tribal University named after Sammakka Sarakka University in Mulugu district, as well as the establishment of a turmeric board for the benefit of farmers.Furthermore, the Union government has taken the initiative to ensure fairness by entrusting the responsibility of determining Telangana’s share of Krishna waters to the Krishna Water Tribunal, he noted.
