In an exciting development, the Congress party is set to reveal its first list of candidates for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections on Sunday. The list, comprising 58 names, received the green light from the AICC’s central election committee, chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge, during a meeting in Delhi on Saturday.
K.Muraleedharan, the head of the AICC screening committee for Telangana, shared the news with the media in Delhi. He mentioned ongoing discussions with Left parties for a potential alliance. The exact number of seats to be allocated to CPI and CPM will be confirmed on Sunday, following which the initial list will be unveiled.
Further, the central election committee is scheduled to convene once more on October 17 or 18 to finalize candidates for the remaining constituencies.By October 19, the Congress plans to announce candidates for all 119 Assembly seats.
A high-powered campaign is on the horizon, with senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slated to kick off a bus yatra in the state on October 18.The dynamic duo will commence their journey with a visit to the revered Kondagattu Anjaneyaswamy temple in Jagtial, where they will also host their inaugural roadshow.Subsequently, the bus yatra will make its way to Nizamabad.
TPCC chief A.Revanth Reddy assured reporters in Delhi that the detailed itinerary for Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s visit will be disclosed on Sunday.
In discussions regarding seat sharing with the Left parties, it was decided to offer two seats each to CPI and CPM in the former undivided districts of Khammam and Nalgonda.
The Congress proposed Kothagudem and Munugode seats to CPI, and Bhadrachalam and Miryalaguda seats to CPM.The Left parties have requested until Sunday to finalize their decision.
Meanwhile, senior leaders Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, who recently joined Congress after leaving BRS, met with Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary K.C.Venugopal.During the meeting, Nageswara Rao was suggested to contest from Khammam, while Srinivas Reddy, who joined Congress in June, was assured the ticket for Palair.
Nageswara Rao refrained from commenting on the issue, emphasizing his commitment to follow the party’s directives on ticket allocation.
Should the Left parties choose to join forces, it would mark a significant revival of their alliance after nearly two decades, echoing their successful ousting of the TDP government in undivided Andhra Pradesh back in 2004.
