Many are aware that ace director Gunasekhar is making a film called ‘Shaakuntalam’ where Samantha Akkineni is playing the female lead and the titular role in this period-epic love drama.Effectively, the filming has started half a month ago in Hyderabad along with Malayalam co-actor Dev Mohan who is one film old and plays the role of King Dushyant.
Moreover, Mohan Babu will be essaying the character of Dhruva Maharshi in this period drama film.
Now the latest update is that another famous actress has joined the team and she is Kollywood beauty Aditi Balan.
With her powerful role in ‘Aruvi’, Aditi has immensely impressed the audience.She will be seen in a crucial role in ‘Shaakuntalam’ but her character has not been determined yet.Earlier, Eesha Rebba was considered for this role but she walked out of the movie due to a difference in the schedules.The film is made on a very high budget and the shooting is underway in grand sets in Hyderabad.
The film was officially announced on January 1st, 2021, along with a captivating motion poster.Directed by Gunasekhar, the film will reportedly be based on Kalidasa’s epic Sanskrit play Abhijnana ‘Shakuntalam’.
The film will focus specifically on the love story of King Dushyanta and Shakuntala, daughter of sage Vishwamitra and Apsara Menaka.Samantha also has in her kitty two other films – ‘Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal’ by Vignesh Shivan and the yet-to-be-titled flick with Ashwin Saravanan.
