Russian diplomat says there is progress in nuclear discussions with Iran

Vienna 8 Aug : Discussions to revive the nuclear deal between Iran and six other countries are moving in the right direction according to Russian negotiator Mikhail Ulyanov.
“Looks like we’re making progress.We’ll keep our fingers crossed” the Russian ambassador to international organizations in Vienna posted on Twitter on Sunday, following an exchange with EU chief negotiator Enrique Mora, without giving more details, the dpa news agency reported.

But there were no indications of an agreement at the end of the weekend, after talks were resumed in Vienna on Thursday, following the break of five months.

Ulyanov stated that Moscow “fully” is in support of the current draft agreement.

In the current round of talks diplomats from the US, Iran and the five other participants to the agreement – China, Germany, France and the UK and Russia are working to settle the final issues of an agreement to lift US sanctions and restore restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The parties are working to save the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which was a deal reached in 2015 to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

The sanctions were put in place by the US after its unilateral departure in 2018 of the nuclear agreement during the Trump presidency.of Donald Trump.Tehran has repeatedly stated that the nuclear agreement is of no worth to Iran in the absence of dismantling of sanctions.

On Sunday the Foreign Minister of Iran Hussein Amirabdollahian reiterated his opposition to the investigations carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that seek to clarify the secret nuclear operations in the past.

“We will continue to work with the IAEA however, it must be able to distinguish itself from political squabbles and conduct its work within a framework of technical,” Amirabdollahian said in the course of a phone conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Minister Amirabdollahian stressed that Iran isn’t looking to build nuclear weapons.
