Melbourne, December 31, : .Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Axar Pale were among the Test players of the year for 2021.Rohit Sharma, 34 years old, has dominated white-ball cricket in his own home for many years. This year, he proved that he is capable of scoring big Test runs from outside Asia.
He finished second in the 2021 list of top run-scorers, behind Joe Root.
The classy right-hander could have made it even more exciting if he had turned multiple strong starts into huge hundreds.
In 14 of his 19 innings, he reached 20 runs or more.He also posted 2 centuries — 161 and 127 in 329 respectively to win in Chennai.
Rishabh Pan’s influence this year is being undersold by a century and an average of below 40, particularly in the first three month 2021.
If the dynamic left-hander could have turned scores of 97 in Sydney, 89 not out in Brisbane, and 91 in Chennai into hundreds, his numbers would be much better.
But, with a player like Pant, numbers don’t tell the whole story.
He was rightly compared to Adam Gilchrist for his way of dismantling the England and Australia bowling attack at the beginning of the year.
While he would rather forget about the tour of England, 2021 might be considered the year that a new great really arrived on the international stage.
This year, Ravichandran Ashwin was also prolific as he took 54 Test wickets.
He also suffered disappointments. He was as dominant at home as ever (where he won 46 wickets), but he suffered an injury that prevented him from playing in the series win in Brisbane.
The off-spinner then missed India’s Series in England and was surprisingly not selected by selectors because a Ravindra Jadeja added batting power.
Another year with 50+ wickets is definitely something to celebrate, along with a fifth Test century and his crucial appearance as the bowler in India’s draw at the SCG.
Axar Patel, another Indian spinner showed that while it is possible to bowl in favorable conditions, exploiting these conditions can be a whole different story.
Patel’s absence from India’s opening series against England in February is made more bizarre by the chaos that ensued. The left-arm spinner scored 27 runs in three Tests, making it one of the most memorable series ever.
He was a combination of precise accuracy and smart variations.
The bulk of his wickets against England were from spinners.
These four Indian cricketers were not the only ones named in Cricket.com.au’s Test team of year.
