Chennai, Dec 29 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin requested that Prime Minister Narendra Modi advise the Ministry of Home Affairs about releasing the Central Assistance towards the rain-related losses in the state.Stalin wrote to Modi stating that the floods caused by northeast monsoon rains had damaged homes and croplands and led to loss of lives and death for cattle.
The Central team responsible for assessing damages caused by incessant rainfalls visited Tamil Nadu, November 21st 2021.He said that three memoranda have been submitted to India seeking assistance in the form of relief funds.
One for temporary restoration, and one for permanent rehabilitation of infrastructure such as roads and bridges.
Stalin said that the financial situation of the state was under extreme stress because of Covid-19 pandemic, and then the floods which followed only made it worse.
The State Disaster Response Funds have been used up to their full extent.He stated that the State Disaster Response funds must be used to compensate the victims as soon as possible to help them get past the current floods.
