Special category status for Rajasthan in FM Meet

New Delhi, December 30, : , Rajasthan’s Minister for Technical Education Dr Subhash Garg has raised the need for special category status in the state because the costs of service delivery are higher than those of other states.
Garg represented Rajasthan at a meeting of the finance ministers of all states, pre-budget.

It was held on Thursday in Vigyan Bhavan.The meeting was chaired and led by Nirmala Sitharaman (Union Finance Minister).

According to him, Rajasthan has become a major investment center because of its state government’s investment-friendly policies under Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.He stated that the ‘Invest Rajasthan Summit” will take place on January 24-25, where 487 MoUs in excess of Rs 5 lakh crore are being signed.

This is expected to create employment for around 3,28,000 people.

Garg demanded the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project be made a national project as soon as possible.

The Central government should also be responsible for 100 percent of expenditure by approving five major projects in desert and tribal regions.This will increase the state’s investment climate.

Garg stated that the Jal Jeevan Mission should have a funding ratio of 90 to 10, in order for it to be successful.The recharge period for the central part of this scheme must be increased by two years, to March 2026.

The second Covid wave has had a devastating effect on the state’s economic performance, he said.The revenue deficit grant for 2022-23 should increase from Rs 4,862 crore, to Rs 9,878 cr.and should continue from 2023-24 to 2020-25.He requested that the 15th Finance Commission’s recommendations be adopted to reduce the borrowing limit from 5% of the GSDP to 2021-22, and 4.5 percent to 2024-25 to 2022-23.

According to him, under Ayushman Bhat Pradhan Tri Jan Arogya Yojana the existing ceiling set by the central government must be lifted in order to allow maximum participation.

Garg stated that the current import duty for gold, silver and platinum is 7.5% and 10.1% respectively.To make Indian products more competitive with those of Singapore, Dubai and other countries like Singapore, this should be reduced to 4%.In order to help the local mining sector, which has suffered huge losses from foreign imports, he requested an increase in the basic customs duties on the import of vitrified tiles.It should go up to 25% instead of 10%.
