Although the Tamil Nadu government has been insisting on a healthy lunch meal program to Scheduled Tribe students in the state, but the Irula children here aren’t receiving even one egg a day.

The school doesn’t have a cook or the mother of a student M.Deviani cooks for the students. She stated that the school gets dry rations for noon meals every once in two months.

Deviani also stated that she was accustomed to receiving eggs every two weeks from the noon meal organizer and that she was required to carry eggs and other items uphill to get them to school.

The headmaster of the school also stated that he had asked the lunch organiser to provide eggs, however, she was not convinced.

Officials however, say that eggs aren’t being supplied because of rain.

Social activist and NGO Krishnagiri study center’s director M.K.Gopalakrishnan said to IANS that the person who is in the charge of the school is required to provide the meals to the school in question and should he or she isn’t doing so the appropriate action needs to be taken.the deficiency of eggs in the noon meal program is not a valid reason.”

Many other activists also spoke out strongly against the inability of the district’s administration to distribute eggs to the tribal school, which is solely for the Irula tribal.
