Ahmedabad 7th September : The Maldhari Mahapanchayat’s leaders as well as Maldhari’s religious gurus have met recently and decided to convene in the state assembly at the monsoon sessions that is expected to be completed by the middle of the month.
MMP President Nagji Desai has told the press that pastoralists face serious issues, as the state government is attempting to merge villages after villages in the city’s boundaries, which affects the grazing land.

Without grazing areas, where will cattle find fodder? The government isn’t coming up with the solution.Therefore, the Maldharis have decided to hold marches and gheraos for the assembly.

Around one lakh Maldharis all across the state are expected to make it to Gandhinagar on the day prior to when the session starts or when the session is in progress, he told the media.

The monsoon season is anticipated to begin in the third or fourth week of this month.

A second gathering of the Maldhari Mahapanchayat is scheduled to be held on Thursday, where the protest roadmap will be drawn up.

“The government is not adhering to the word it has given.Following the High Court interim order, the government had stated that if cattle were seized by the municipal corporation’s team and subsequently kept in the shelter house it would not charge an amount however, the company is charging for the service,” he said.

Another demand is that , as promises made by the ruling party the government should eliminate the Gujarat Cattle Control (Keeping and Moving) in the Urban Area Bill.

The bill was approved on the final day of the budget session of this year.
