New Delhi, December 30, : .The Womens Action Forum, one of Pakistan’s oldest rights groups, condemned Imran Khans comments at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit (OIC), earlier in the month.
Friday Times reported that Khan had made remarks about women and human rights, as well as Pashtun culture, according to the Womens Action Forum.WAF released a statement on Thursday saying that the PM continued to abuse his public office in order to express his personal misogynistic and racist views about women and Pakhtuns, as well as his cultural beliefs, in a press release.
“WAF is deeply concerned about the escalating GBV [gender-based violence] incidents, attacks against young girls/women,” said the statement. It also decried Premier’s “blatant friend overtures to the Afghan Taliban de facto government”.
Imran Khan spoke at OIC Summit in Islamabad and commented on Afghan cultural norms. He also attempted to raise alarm about the current situation in Afghanistan.
He said that every society has a different idea about women’s human rights.
His example was on girls’ education, which is a rising concern in Afghanistan. He said that “if they aren’t sensitive to the cultural norms these people [Pakhtuns], then even with stipends, they won’t send them to school.”
WAF urged the Prime Minister of Pakistan to issue a public apology to “all women, girls, and Pakhtuns in Pakistan and Afghanistan.”
