San Francisco, Aug 17 : Cloud major Oracle is currently examining the content of TikTok’s short-form video platform moderating algorithms to make sure that the Chinese government doesn’t have access to US users’ personal data.According to Axios All newly created US user traffic that is generated on TikTok operated by Chinese tech giant ByteDance is routed through Oracle’s cloud infrastructure.
However, it’s “still not clear the exact date TikTok will be finished with the transfer of all of its previously stored US user data into Oracle’s cloud” it said in a report late on Tuesday.
This move is intended to assure US lawmakers that the content of TikTok is not being altered by Chinese authorities, amid concerns that China has access to US users’ personal data.
This week, news reports revealed that at about 300 employees of TikTok and its parent company ByteDance employees worked for Chinese state media outlets as well as over a dozen work for them.
Portraits of 15 former ByteDance employees revealed that they were employed by the tech firm and state media outlets at the same time, Forbes reported.
The rapid growth of TikTok has raised concern for national security from US lawmakers.
TikTok recently acknowledged that employees who are not part of the US could have access to the information, even though “robust security controls and authorization” by its US security team were required.
In June, Buzzfeed News reported that TikTok users’ information in the US was frequently used by TikTok employees in China.
There were reports this week that Alibaba owner of TikTok, ByteDance as well as Tencent have shared the details of their algorithmic processes with Beijing’s regulators for the very first time.
In June, TikTok revealed it had begun to transfer all of its US user data to Oracle’s cloud infrastructure.
