Odisha train tragedy : Telangana BJP puts off Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday cancelled all its programmes connected with the Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan in the state in the wake of the railway accident in Odisha.In a statement, the party said all visits by Union Ministers to Telangana, and by senior party leaders too have been put off and that its district units will hold condolence meetings to pay respects to those who lost lives in the three train crash accident in Odisha.

At least 260 people were killed and more than 900 injured in the train crash involving the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train in Odisha’s Balasore on Friday.

Officials in Bhubaneswar said 200 ambulances, 50 buses and 45 mobile health units, besides 1,200 personnel, are working at the accident site.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting on Saturday to review the situation in relation to the Odisha train accident, officials said.Home Minister Amit Shah and senior government officials attended the meeting as Modi took stock of the situation.

The prime minister is also scheduled to visit the site of the accident and also the Cuttack hospital where the injured are being treated.

PM Narendra Modi was likely to visit Odisha during the month-long massive country-wide public relations campaign launched by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to mark the completion of nine years of the party-led government at the Centre.

The ‘Maha Jansampark Abhiyan’, which kicked off on Wednesday, will continue across the country till June 30, Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal had earlier told reporters in Bhubaneswar.
