NHRC outrages over increasing student suicides in Telugu states

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) expressed displeasure over the increasing number of student suicides in both Telugu states.The NHRC has expressed outrage over the lack of scientific measures to curb student suicides in both Telugu states.

The NHRC responded to a complaint by a Supreme Court lawyer alleging that students were suffering from mental stress and therefore committing suicide in both Telugu states.In December last year, the NHRC directed the Chief Secretaries of the two states to submit a report on student suicides in the Telugu states.

NHRC once again ordered to submit a comprehensive report on youth suicides in both Telugu states within six weeks.It warned that the state government representatives would have to appear before the NHRC if they fail to submit the report by the deadline.

Based on the 2019 records, the NHRC said 426 people had committed suicide in Telugu states.

The meeting also discussed the nutritional status of children, pregnant women and mothers in the country and the implementation of the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ in the wake of the corona pandemic.

On this occasion, the NHRC quoted the ‘Comprehensive National Nutrition Survey (CNNS)’ report conducted by the Union Ministry of Health for 2016-18.Also, it made several key suggestions to the respective department officials based on the report.
