New Delhi, Aug 29 : The US space agency has on Monday wiped out the not-crewed Space Launch System (SLS) Moon mission, dubbed Artemis I owing to a technical engine issue.NASA stated in an update on Twitter that the launch was in an unplanned delay because engineers noticed an issue with one of the rocket’s engines.
“The team is working on a problem with engine 3 of the @NASA_SLS primary stage,”” stated the space agency.
NASA will announce a different launch date at a later time.
Artemis I will enter deep space and complete an extended orbit around Moon before returning to Earth.
It will establish the foundation for a permanent, long-term presence around and on the Moon.
The US space agency has identified 13 landing zones close to the south pole of the moon while it is preparing to send astronauts back to the Moon under the Artemis program in 2024.
Each region is home to multiple possible landing spots in preparation for Artemis III, which will be the first of the Artemis missions that will bring crews to the lunar surface.
