Today high court ordered Mohan Babu and Brahmanandam to revert their ‘Padma Shri’ awards to the Government of India for misusing them.
As per Article 18(1) of the Constitution, National Award didn’t amount to a title and can’t be used as a suffix or prefix.But the actors have violated the rules by using the award as prefix in Denikayina ready movie which leads to controversy.
The petitioner, BJP senior leader N Indraseena Reddy, approached High Court seeking direction to the Government of India recommending annulment of Padmashree award given to Mohan Babu and Brahmanandam for misusing them.
High Court faulted using ‘Padmashree’ in title cards in a wrong manner and directed the actors to revert the prestigious award.
While Mohan Babu was felicitated with Padmashree in the year 2007, Brahmanandam received the honour in the 2009 for their service in the field of entertainment.
