Microsoft makes Azure virtual machines accessible to customers

New Delhi, Aug 30 : Microsoft has announced the general availability of the most recent Azure Virtual Machines featuring the Ampere Altra Arm processor.
The brand new virtual machines will be available on September 1 and customers will be able to launch the machines in 10 Azure regions and in multiple availability zones across the globe the company stated in an announcement.

Additionally the virtual machines running Arm can be integrated in Kubernetes clusters that are managed by Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).This feature is currently in beta and will be made available in the coming weeks in all regions that support the latest virtual machines.

“Hundreds of customers have tested and experienced the outstanding performance and price of Arm architecture Arm architecture can deliver for application servers and web servers, databases that are open source microservices, Java and .NET applications media servers, gaming, and much more,” said Paul Nash Vice President, Azure Compute Platform.

Azure’s Ampere Altra Arm virtual machines are an energy-efficient and cost-effective option that doesn’t reduce the quality of quality that consumers expect according to the company.

“The broad accessibility of Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines on Arm is an important step in expanding the possibilities in cloud computing.” explained Chris Bergey, SVP and GM, Infrastructure Line of Business, Arm.

All new virtual machine sizes can support up to 40 Gbps of networking bandwidth.

The Ampere Altra Arm-based Azure virtual machines are now available in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.

“We intend to increase Azure regional availability starting September 1st” said the company.
