LPL: Jaffna Kings defeated Kandy Warriors 7 wickets in a rain-curtailed match

Colombo (12/12/IANS) Kandy Warriors were defeated by Jaffna Kings seven runs using the DLS Method in a match that was played in rain in the Lanka Premier League.
Charith Asalanka, Warriors’ opener scored 44 runs after being asked to bat in the first over.This helped his team score 94/2 in 12.2 innings.

Rain caused the match to stop, therefore Kandy Warriors lost their innings.Jaffna Kings, using the DLS method were then asked to chase 95 runs in just 10 overs.

Jaffna Kings started the chase well with Avishka Ferdinand scoring 23 runs in 12 balls, at a strike rate 191.67.This helped his team reach the 50 run mark in 5 overs.Kings were left reeling at 52/3 after Tom KohlerCadmore and Fernando were both dismissed quickly.

But veteran cricketer Shoaib Malik and Jaffna skipper Thisara Perera kept cool heads and stitched an unbeaten 43-run stand to chase down the target in 8.4 overs and helped the team pick up a big win.

While Malik scored 14* in nine balls, Perera scored 29 not out in 13 balls in the chase.Malik, who had also registered figures of 19/1 in his three overs with the ball, was named man of the match for his allround performance.
