Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, KT Rama Rao is going to launch the first south Indian Waste to Energy (WtE) plant at Jawaharnagar on Tuesday.The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has associated with Hyderabad MSW Energy Solutions Private Limited to set up the 19.8 MW capacity Waste-to-Energy plant.

The officials proudly say the Waste-to-Energy plant is the first one to be commissioned in Southern India.

After the trial run on August 20, the plant has produced around 15 million units with one boiler.According to the officials, Phase-I of the project has two RDF fired boilers, and the plant has an international standard multi-stage Flue Gas Cleaning System and online CEMS.

Apart from this plant, another plant of 14.5 MW capacity is going to set up at TSDF land of TSIIC at Dundigal.The GHMC officials have had estimated the plant with a potential of generating 98 MW.Regarding this, GHMC has requested the State government to grant permission for expanding its capacity to 48 MW in Phase-II.

The officials say this plant reduces the land burden under the management of municipal waste generated in Hyderabad and also make sure of greenery in the city.
