The government is paying special attention to the drainage works which are the main cause of rain problems in the city.An amount of Rs.858 crore has been sanctioned for works under the Strategic Drainage Development Scheme (SNDP) to overcome the problems encountered during the monsoon.
Since everything is impossible the tasks in the most problematic, key areas are carried out with priority.
According to government regulations, Engineering officials said tenders for works costing more than Rs 10 crore would have to be sent to the Commissionerate of Tenders (COT) for approval.
Municipal Minister KTR advised the officials to work with the contractors who had finalized the tenders without waiting for the LOAs to arrive as it was likely to take almost two months for all this to happen and there was not much time left for the monsoon season.
The decision was taken after the matter came to the attention of a minister who regularly conducts reviews on the progress of my work.
The information also suggested that the time of tenders should be called for one week instead of two weeks to expedite the work.
Short-term tenders can be called for weekly work for urgent works as per engineering regulations. It is learned that short term tenders have to be called by the week deadline as my works are also urgent.
