San Francisco, Aug 10 : Google has launched an initiative to press Apple to implement RCS (rich communication services) and improve text messaging between Android and iOS users.RCS is a next-generation SMS protocol that improves the text messaging capabilities across Android and IMessages.
“It’s the right time to get Apple to fix the texting issue.It’s not just about the colour of the bubbles.It’s the blurry video broken group chats, no read receipts, no indications for typing that don’t allow texting on Wi-Fi, and many more.” declared the Google campaign.
“These issues arise because Apple refuses to adopt the latest standard for texting when users with iPhones as well as Android phones message each one another,” it added.
The tech giant is requesting Apple to fix these problems by assisting RCS.
“Messaging can bring people closer and not tear them apart” Google said.
“The Android team’s goal is to make texting more secure, modern , and enjoyable experience for all users regardless of the device they’re using.
Because it shouldn’t matter which phone they’re using the system should function,” the company added.
According to Google, Apple turns texts between iPhones and Android phones into MMS and SMS, which are obsolete technology.
“But Apple can adopt RCS — the latest industry standard to manage these threads.This will solve the issue without altering the conversation on your iPhone to iPhone conversations, and making messaging more accessible to all users,” said Google.
Apple has yet to respond to the latest Google RCS campaign.
