In a heartbreaking turn of events, 23-year-old Marri Pravallika, an aspiring candidate for Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC), took her own life on October 13 in Hyderabad’s Ashok Nagar area. Her passing led to a wave of protests, with students and job hopefuls expressing their discontent with the ruling BRS government led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
While the police stated that Pravallika’s struggle with relationship issues played a role in her decision, opposition parties were quick to point fingers at the BRS government. The Opposition mainly Congress heavily criticized the government for alleged mismanagement of TSPSC exams, causing delays and disruptions, potentially contributing to Pravallika’s tragic choice.
Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, expressed deep sorrow over the loss.He passionately asserted that Pravallika’s passing wasn’t just a suicide, but a tragic end to the dreams and aspirations of Telangana’s youth.
He went on to criticize both the BRS and BJP, claiming their combined tenure had brought incompetence to the state.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the frustration of countless young aspirants facing repeated exam postponements.
He pledged that the youth of Telangana would hold the government accountable for its alleged inefficiency.
The BSP state president, RS Praveen Kumar, condemned Pravallika’s death and called upon the Governor to take action to prevent further loss of lives among the disillusioned unemployed youth.
On the other side, BJP MP K Laxman contended that Pravallika’s diligent preparations for government exams were thwarted by the government’s constant cancellations and delays. He pressed for transparency, demanding the release of her suicide letter.
Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances of Pravallika’s passing. He decried what he saw as negligence on the part of the KCR government.
YS Sharmila, president of the YSRTP party, characterized Pravallika’s death as a tragic result of government actions. She asked pointedly, “Can you fathom a parent’s heartbreak when their child, full of hope, ventures to a city for a job and returns in a casket?”
The debate further escalated as TPCC chief Revanth Reddy questioned BRS MLC K Kavitha’s festive greetings in the face of Pravallika’s anguish.Kavitha defended herself, expressing both her celebration of Bathukamma and her sincere condolences for Pravallika’s family.
In this somber moment, the people of Telangana look to their leaders for answers and action, hoping for a future where such tragedies are prevented.
Questioning the Congress leaders, Kavitha said, “Was it not senior Congress leader D Sridhar Babu in the Assembly and Revanth Reddy himself on X who had sought the postponement of the Group-2 services exam.”
