Gandhinagar (30 Dec) – Aam Aadmi Party leaders including Gopal Italia (state president), who were in prison for protesting at the BJP Headquarters here for the past ten days, were released on bail Thursday by a Gandhinagar court.The Gandhinagar court gave bail to 65 AAP leaders, who had been held in Sabarmati Central Jail from December 20.Pranav Thakkar (the legal counsel for AAP Gujarat) stated that he believes they would be released by tonight.
Counsel added that they have yet to be provided with a copy of the bail orders.
All of those who were arrested were charged under sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which includes criminal conspiracy and sections of Epidemic Diseases Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
Out of the total 93 AAP members arrested, 28 have been granted conditional bail.
The AAP members were detained on December 20, after staging a demonstration outside Gandhinagar’s state BJP Headquarters, ‘Shree Kamalam.
Asit Vora (BJP leader, chairman, Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board, GSSSB), was reportedly being reprimanded for leaking the recruitment paper of head clerk.
On December 12, 88,000 applicants appeared for the 186 vacant positions.AAP claimed that question papers were purchased in advance and sold for between Rs 8-12 lakh.
The government cancelled the exam, and scheduled it again for March 2022.However, 18 suspects were arrested by the police in connection to the racket.
Following a fight between AAP workers and BJP workers at Kamalam, the police took the people to task for their protest.
Gandhinagar Police made an FIR against AAP workers, and Gopal Italia was arrested.
