New York, Sep 9 : In a bid to take on Elon Musk’s Tesla, automaker GM has unveiled a mass-market electric vehicle priced at just $30,000.It is dubbed the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, the vehicle is expected to have a range of around 480 km and will be available for purchase in the coming year.
“We are nearing a tipping point at which EVs are the standard option in the coming generation of customers, and Equinox EV will be the first to lead the charge for us,” said Mary Barra Chairman and CEO of General Motors.
“With the flexibility of GM’s Ultium Platform, we are offering vehicles on the market that are priced at a variety of prices and for all purposes,” Barra said in an announcement at the end of Thursday.
Starting at a cost of about $30,000 for the 1LT model the Equinox EV is a plug for Chevrolet into the essential compact SUV segment .It is likely to be the cheapest EV in its category.
It completes an electrified lineup that covers the major segments, such as large trucks (Silverado EV) and midsize SUVs (Blazer EV) and small SUVs (Bolt EV and Bolt EUV).
“Chevrolet is now in a position to offer a variety of EVs,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet.”We know our SUV and truck clients better than anybody else else, and we’ve channeled that knowledge and knowledge into our new EVs.”
Chevrolet stated that it will make the EV transition as seamless as possible, with support such as the ability to navigate and plan routes via the MyChevy app, which can help identify and map routes for charging stations.
“The Equinox EV has the capability to get you to wherever you’d like to go and the roominess for your gear and passengers and the technology to accomplish it all with ease and confidence,” said Bell.
2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV will be available in the fall of 2023.
It will be available with the limited edition 2RS model.
