EPDCL has embarked on a new trend in the power operation in AP.The electricity department will set up smart substations.There is no need for employees to supply electricity to homes and shops in the area from the substation.
The company has decided to convert all EPDCL units into smart substations.It has also invited tenders for this at an estimated cost of Rs 3,34.51 crore.The power ministry estimates that Rs 50 lakh will be required to convert the Gidijala substation into a smart substation.
The system of smart substations was undertaken under a pilot project under EPDCL.
Gidijala substation in the Anandapuram zone of Visakhapatnam will be made full-fledged automation and smart substation.Gidijala has a 33/11 kV substation.
The existing substation will be turned into a smart substation.
All information on power distribution and problems within the Gidijala substation reaches the SCOD control room online.
If any problem arises, the officers will be informed through this smart station even if there are no employees.They will operate from the SCOD control room in the Pedavalteru substation.
The next step on this will depend on the outcome of the pilot project.
