Director Vivek Agnihotri Supports Same-Sex Marriage in India

Vivek Agnihotri, a filmmaker, expressed his support for same-sex marriage on Twitter amidst the ongoing debate about the issue.

The Supreme Court recently announced that petitions calling for the legal recognition of same-sex marriages will be addressed by a constitution bench.

In response to a tweet that highlighted the governments stance on same-sex marriage, Agnihotri shared his thoughts on the matter.He disagreed with the belief that same-sex marriage was an "urban elitist concept," stating that it was a fundamental need and right.

He cited examples of small towns, villages, and Mumbai locals to counter the "urban elitist" argument.Furthermore, he reaffirmed his trust in India as a progressive, liberal, and inclusive country and called for same-sex marriage to be normalized for a better future.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta also tweeted in support of legalizing same-sex marriages in India, sharing a still from his episode in the anthology series Modern Love: Mumbai, which featured a gay couple.Last year, he had also discussed his decision to cast straight actors in the episode, saying that he believes representation should come from the story and that the right actor, regardless of sexual orientation, should be cast.
