Panaji 19 August : Criticism is always welcome, but journalists must ensure that prior to publishing any piece of news, they verify its authenticityto ensure the image of the state isn’t disseminated, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated on Friday. “Media community should be supportive of the efforts of the state to present its image in the correct manner.
Critics are always welcome, but journalists must ensure that before they write any story, they confirm its authenticity, ensuring that the image of the state is not tarnished,” he said.
In his speech at the Orientation Programming for Journalists Sawant advised them to concentrate on journalism that is constructive rather than destructive journalism, bearing in the mind that Goa is a major international tourist destination, and efforts are underway to ensure that it becomes the tourist capital of the nation.
He declared it’s the media that can portray the state in the way that people take a trip to Goa as a rich and diverse environmental treasure and its sanctuaries, numerous tourist destinations, and its heritage sites as well.
Senior journalist Anand Narsimhan, who was the main person responsible for the show, in his address, said that people who work in the media industry of media should be informed in terms of the happenings of the day all around us.
Professor of Journalism at Savitribai Phule College, Pune Dr.Sanjay Tambat spoke on the changing landscape of journalism, the issues and possibilities in the field of journalism today.
