According to the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer Serum Institute, Covid-19 vaccine will not be available for everyone on this planet until 2024-25.

Speaking to a media, Serum CEO Adar Poonawalla has disclosed the statement reiterating that it would take 4-5 years until everyone on the earth gets a vaccine.

According to Poonawalla, if the vaccine shot was a two-dose one, the world needs 15 billion doses, and in India, it could only possible for 400 million doses.

His statement came just a day after Union Minister Harsha Vardhan hinted that the first shot of the vaccine gets readied by early 2021.However, he has said that no date has been finalized for the release of a specific vaccine.

Serum Institute has collaborated with AstraZeneca for its vaccine which is being developed by Oxford University. In August, Serum initiated phase 2 and phase 3 trials in India with a promise that it would produce 100 million doses of the vaccine by 2021.

Earlier, the World Health Organisation too reiterated that it takes at least two years to get a widespread vaccine for everyone.
