Over the weekend, Bollywood director Karan Johar responded to criticism from fellow industry members who were upset after an old video resurfaced showing him supposedly confessing to sabotaging the career of actor Anushka Sharma.
Kangana Ranaut, Vivek Agnihotri, and Apurva Asrani had all publicly called out Johars comments from a 2016 panel discussion.
A few hours ago, the filmmaker Karan Johar posted a cryptic Hindi poem on his Instagram Stories about not bowing down to lies and accusations. He stated that he would not become a slave to lies and would not fall, no matter how much he was slandered or portrayed negatively.
Johars response came after Priyanka Chopra had revealed on a podcast that she felt cornered in Bollywood and had trouble getting work due to her beef with certain individuals in the industry. However, Chopra was seen warmly greeting Johar and his husband Nick Jonas at a recent cultural event.
Johars last film, Selfiee, starring Akshay Kumar, flopped at the box office earlier this year.He has also faced criticism for casting only industry insiders in his films.
Later this year, he plans to launch Shanaya Kapoor, the daughter of Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, in the film Bedhadak.
Johars last feature film as a director was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016.He was a director for sections included in the anthology films Lust Stories (2018) and Ghost Stories (2020).He is set to return to feature film directing in July 2023 with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi.
