The biogas plant that was commissioned in Punjab utilizes paddy straws, as per the minister.

Chandigarh 12 August : In a major step towards green and clean energy, the compressed biogas (CBG) plant was launched in Sangrur district of Punjab.
In announcing this on Friday the Punjab’s new and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora said the plant with an overall capacity of 33.23 tons CBG per day was installed in the Bhuttal Kalan village.

The plant is now in commercial production of CBG which is being sold through an Indian Oil Corporation Ltd outlet.

Additionally, PEDA has also allocated 42 additional CBG projects of total capacity 492.58 tons per day, based on paddy straw, as well as agro-residues to come up with a long-lasting and long-lasting method to stop the stubble burning while strengthening rural areas.

The minister stated that these projects will attract private investment of approximately Rs 1200 crore, in addition to creating jobs for 8,000 skilled and untrained people.Through these projects, emissions of greenhouse gases will be reduced, and the rural economy will be given an increase in income to farmers through the agro residue.

Chief Executive PEDA Sumeet Jarangal stated that two additional plants of total capacity of 14.25 tons of CBG per day are expected to be operational in 2022-23.

The other projects are expected to be completed within the next 3 years.These projects will consume around 16.5 lakh tons of paddy straw per year and produce 492.58 tonnes CBG every day, he added.

In addition, the organic manure that is fermented from the CBG plants as a bi-product will be used to assist in organic agriculture, which will aid local industries that are allied to flourish.

There is a lot of opportunity of CBG projects built on the agro-waste in Punjab Arora, said Arora and added that Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd is developing an initiative of capacity 100 KL of 2G daily ethanol production based on paddy straw as well as other agricultural residues in Bathinda district and will be finished by the end of February 2023.

This project will require approximately 2 lakh tonnes of paddy straw annually.
