San Francisco, Sep 9 : Amazon on Friday announced that it would acquire Belgian-based Cloostermans which develops and manufactures mechatronics products for an undisclosed price.In the wake of the purchase of Cloostermans, Amazon said it will continue to invest in custom-designed, state-of-the-art technology that will increase technological innovation in the workplace as well as enhance the experience of employees.
Cloostermans created technology that is currently being utilized in Amazon operations to assist shift and stack heavy pallets and totes as well as package items together for delivery to customers.
Amazon began to work with Cloostermans in the year 2019.
“As we strive to expand and increase the amount of robotics and technology we develop, engineer and use across our businesses, we are looking eagerly to welcome Cloostermans to Amazon and we are excited to discover what we can create in the future,” said Ian Simpson Vice President of Global Robotics at Amazon.
Cloostermans’s team of around 200 employees will join Amazon Global Robotics’ growing presence in Europe.
“Amazon has set the bar on how supply chain technology can benefit both customers and employees We’re eager to being one of the participants of the next phase of this breakthrough,” said Frederik Berckmoes-Joos Chief Executive Officer of Cloostermans.
Since Amazon began the introduction of robotics into its facilities in 2012, the company has installed more than 520,000 drive units for robotics across the globe, and has also created more than one million jobs.
“Automation has created new jobs at our facilities, which include jobs like mechatronics and robotics maintenance technicians, as and flow control experts” Amazon said.Amazon. “To assist in the development of our employees, we have created apprenticeship programs that provide our employees training for a fee as well as on-the job learning that can lead towards certification, advanced expertise and a chance for fulfilling work” the company said.
