Shortly after the BRS initiated the process to waive loans for farmers in Telangana, TPCC chief and MP A.Revanth Reddy claimed that it was a clear victory for the Congress. He attributed the success to the Congress’ relentless agitation demanding loan waivers for farmers.
Revanth Reddy stated that Congress delegations had repeatedly met the chief secretary, submitting representations on behalf of farmers and organising protests at various locations.
He said that the government’s decision to announce the loan waiver was a direct result of the Congress’ agitations.
However, Revanth Reddy further demanded that the government should also consider waiving off all interests on loans taken by farmers.
He warned that if the government fails to provide a complete waiver, the Congress will not hesitate to stage further protests.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday, 2 August, decided to resume the waiving of farm loans for farmers from Thursday.
The BRS leader’s move is said to have been taken with an eye on the Assembly elections later this year.
In an official communication, the chief minister said that the resumption of waiver of farm loans was in continuation of the state government’s policy of taking care of the welfare of the farmers.
