A Youth Congress leader in Hyderabad has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife. Vallabh Reddy, son of Congress leader in Nalgonda Ranga Sai Reddy, was arrested on Wednesday, 26 July, on charges of murdering his wife Lahari Reddy, 27.However, news of his arrest broke only on Saturday.
On 14 July, Lahari’s parents got a call saying she had fallen off the stairs and sustained head injuries.The FIR filed by the Narayanaguda police quoted her father as saying that she was taken to a private hospital at 9.22 am, where she died at 11 am while undergoing treatment.
According to the FIR, the police were told that the woman had died of a heart attack.The police initially registered a case under 174 CrPC (suspicious death).
During the investigation, the police found that Lahari had suffered other injuries as well.
Lahari Reddy’s father, Koti Jaipal Reddy had lodged a complaint with the Narayanguda police raising doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Jaipal Reddy told police that he received a distress call that Lahari had fallen and sustained head injuries.When he rushed to the hospital with his wife, they were informed that their daughter had suffered a heart attack.
Lahari’s father told the police that he did not suspect anyone, including his son-in-law or his parents.The autopsy report revealed that Lahari had also sustained internal injuries in her abdomen, after which the police arrested Vallabh Reddy on murder charges.
He was also booked for causing disappearance of evidence.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had thrashed his wife during an argument on the night of July 13.He had allegedly pushed her against a wall, resulting in the head injury.They had married last year and were residing at Himayat Nagar in Hyderabad.
