Ramanand Sagar’s famous TV show Ramayan is set to return to television screens due to the underwhelming performance of the film Adipurush.The show, which is considered a benchmark for adaptations of the mythological epic Ramayana, has received immense praise over the years.
Shemaroo TV recently announced on social media that they will be re-airing the series.
Ramayan originally aired on Doordarshan and made a comeback during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to bring back the show was prompted by criticism of Adipurush, particularly regarding certain dialogues that were later changed.As a result, Shemaroo TV decided to reintroduce Ramayan to provide viewers with an alternative.
The re-run of Ramayan is scheduled to premiere on July 5 at 7:30 pm on Shemaroo TV.The show aims to transport viewers to the captivating world of Ramayana and portray the triumph of good over evil.The original series, first broadcast in 1987, gained a massive viewership when it was re-aired during the lockdown.
The announcement of Ramayan’s return comes after the film Adipurush, directed by Om Raut and starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Devdatta Nage, and Saif Ali Khan, faced criticism for its dialogues.
In response to the controversy, Ramanand Sagar’s son, Prem Sagar, expressed concern and called for sensitivity towards the audience’s sentiments.He emphasized the importance of respecting viewers’ emotions, particularly when dealing with a revered scripture like Ramayan.
Prem Sagar acknowledged that the younger generation may have different expectations from the film but stressed the need for responsible storytelling.He suggested that if the movie deviates significantly from Valmiki Ramayan or its essence, it should be given a different title to avoid misleading viewers.
