Indian 2, directed by Shankar and starring Kamal Haasan, has entered its final phase of filming.The highly anticipated movie has been in production for over four years and continues to generate excitement among fans.
Recently, the film’s crew was shooting scenes at the Chennai airport when they encountered an unexpected hurdle.According to reports, the airport administration abruptly halted the filming midway.
The journey of Indian 2 began in September 2017 when it was officially announced.Principal photography commenced in January 2019, and the team embarked on an extensive filming schedule, capturing various locations such as Chennai, Rajahmundry, Bhopal, Kyoto, South Africa, and several other places in India and abroad.
However, tragedy struck in February 2020 when a crane accident on the set resulted in the unfortunate loss of several crew members, leading to a temporary halt in filming.
Subsequently, the production faced multiple delays due to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, budget overruns, and legal issues.
Despite these setbacks, filming resumed in August 2022.Unfortunately, the team now faces another setback as they were prohibited from filming at the Chennai airport.
According to reports, the filming at the airport’s departure area had received permission for specific scenes requiring that location.However, the crew intended to shoot a scene in the airport’s bathroom area without obtaining the necessary permission.
The airport officials promptly intervened and brought the filming to a halt.However, production sources have clarified that filming for Indian 2 is now progressing with all the required clearances in place.It has been reported that the film’s team will compensate the airport administration with an amount of Rs 1.24 crore for the shoot permission.
The makers of Indian 2 have set their sights on a Pongal 2024 release.The film is expected to be Kamal Haasan’s most expensive project to date, given its grand scale.Indian 2 serves as a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, in which Kamal Haasan portrayed both the son and father characters, with the father meeting a dramatic fate in the climactic scene.In addition to the late actors Vivek, Nedumudi Venu, and Manobala, the star-studded cast of Indian 2 includes Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Samuthirakani, Guru Somasundaram, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and others.
