Former Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Tuesday appointed as Chief Advisor to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.The CM reportedly issued orders to appoint Somesh Kumar as his Chief Advisor for a period of three years, with the rank of a Cabinet Minister.
Somesh Kumar was spotted with Chief Minister KCR at his Aurangabad (Maharashtra) public meeting recently. He is expected to take an active part in helping CM KCR, as he pursues his dream of playing a key role in politics at the national level.
The chief minister is already on the move, spreading the party’s wings in other states.
Somesh Kumar had previously been appointed as Chief Secretary in December 2019, but had to step down in January 2021 after the Telangana High Court ordered his transfer to Andhra Pradesh following a writ petition filed by the Union government’s Department of Personnel and Training.
As soon as the high court dismissed the CAT’s order in January this year, the DOPT, within hours, asked Somesh Kumar to pack his bags and move to Andhra Pradesh.
Somesh Kumar reported to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on arriving in Andhra Pradesh, but even after a wait of several weeks, he was not given a posting “commensurate with his rank and experience”.
He later applied to the Centre for Voluntary Retirement from Service (VRS).
During his tenure as Chief Secretary, Somesh Kumar played a key role in implementing several flagship initiatives of the KCR government.
Despite being relieved from his duties in Telangana and reporting for duty in Andhra Pradesh, he later applied for voluntary retirement.
